Apostle Agabus

Apostle Agabus of the Seventy is mentioned in the Acts of the Holy Apostles as a prophet possessing the gift of foresight. In Antioch he foretold the great famine that occurred under Emperor Claudius (41–54) — and the Christians gathered aid for the brethren in Judea (Acts 11:27-30). Later, meeting Apostle Paul in Caesarea, Agabus symbolically bound his own hands and feet with Paul's belt, foretelling his arrest and imprisonment in Jerusalem (Acts 21:10-11) — a prophecy soon fulfilled. He preached the Gospel in many countries, converting pagans to Christ. His memory is kept on January 4/17 (in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles) and April 8/21 (individually, together with the Apostles Herodion, Rufus, Asyncritus, Phlegon, and Hermas).
