Apostle
Apostle Cephas
I век
Apostle Cephas of the Seventy, Bishop of Iconium — NOT to be confused with Apostle Peter (whom the Lord also called "Cephas," John 1:42), but a separate, lesser-known disciple who was made bishop in Iconium.
Apostle Cephas of the Seventy is a person distinct from Apostle Peter, though he bears the same Aramaic name "Cephas" ("rock"), which the Lord also gave to Simon Peter (John 1:42; hence the frequent confusion between them). He was made bishop in the city of Iconium (Asia Minor). His memory is kept on December 8/21 together with the Apostles of the Seventy Sosthenes, Apollos, Tychicus, Epaphroditus, Caesar, and Onesiphorus, as well as January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles.
