Hierarch Atticus, Archbishop of Constantinople (406-425) — a native of the Armenian city of Sebastia; he governed the Church of Constantinople during a difficult period following the deposition of St. John Chrysostom.
Hierarch Atticus was born in the city of Sebastia in Armenia. He governed the Church of Constantinople from 406 to 425, during a difficult period following the unjust deposition and exile of St. John Chrysostom, striving to heal the church divisions that arose from this conflict. He died in 425. His memory is kept on January 8/21 and October 11/24, as well as on Cheesefare Saturday (in the Synaxis of All Venerable Fathers Who Shone Forth in Asceticism) and in the Synaxis of the Hierarchs of Constantinople.
