Venerable

Blessed, Fool for Christ Mary (Martha?) of Tsaritsyn

1880 — XX век (дата кончины не установлена)

Also known as: Марфа Царицынская (Медведская)

IDENTITY NEEDS CLARIFICATION: no source was found under the name "Mary of Tsaritsyn"; the only documented Tsaritsyn blessed woman is Martha of Tsaritsyn (Medvedskaya, b. 1880), a seer and healer who in 1910 predicted to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna the death of the royal family. A name mix-up ("Maria"/"Martha") in the original scraping is possible.

This card bears the name "Mary of Tsaritsyn," but no authoritative source contains information about a saint by this name. The only widely documented Tsaritsyn (now Volgograd) blessed woman is Martha of Tsaritsyn, born Martha Medvedskaya in 1880 to a well-off Tsaritsyn family, an only daughter. After finishing gymnasium she made a pilgrimage to St. Petersburg to see St. Righteous John of Kronstadt. She became known in Tsaritsyn as a clairvoyant and healer; in 1910 she was visited by Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, who heard from the blessed woman a prediction of the imminent death of the entire royal family. In the absence of a source confirming a separate "Mary of Tsaritsyn," the card is honestly left with an open identity question (a name-transcription error during scraping is possible), no memory date is established, and the card is hidden from the calendar pending clarification by a human editor.
