Also known as: Собор Челябинских святых, Собор святых Челябинской митрополии, Собор святых, в земле Челябинской просиявших
The common commemoration of the new martyrs who died or long lived in the South Urals, within the Chelyabinsk Metropolis. Established by Patriarch Kirill in 2020, it is kept on a Sunday in October near the feast of Hieromartyr Peter of Krutitsy (10 October).
The Synaxis of the Saints of the Chelyabinsk Metropolis commemorates the saints whose lives and martyrdom are connected with the South Urals. The Council of Bishops of the Chelyabinsk Metropolis resolved on 20 February 2020 to petition Patriarch Kirill, who approved the feast on the report of Metropolitan Gregory of Chelyabinsk and Miass; it was first celebrated on 11 October 2020.
At its establishment the Synaxis included six new martyrs of the Russian Church: the priests Alexander Miropolsky, Peter Belyaev and Peter Smorodintsev, killed near Kasli in 1918; Paul Sokolov, who served in Nyazepetrovsk and was shot in Kungur in 1918; Metropolitan Peter (Polyansky) of Krutitsy, Patriarchal Locum Tenens, held in the Verkhneuralsk prison and shot on 10 October 1937; and the martyr Paraskeva Kochneva of Miass, who died in a labour camp in 1939. The list may be expanded.
The feast is kept on 10 October (New Style) when it falls on a Sunday, otherwise on the following Sunday; when 10 October is a Wednesday, it moves to the preceding Sunday, 7 October, to avoid the feast of the Protection of the Theotokos.
