Apostle of the Seventy Crispus — before his conversion he was the ruler of the synagogue in Corinth; he came to believe in Christ and was baptized together with his household by the Apostle Paul (Acts 18:8; 1 Cor 1:14) during Paul's stay in Corinth; he later became bishop of the island of Aegina.
The holy Apostle of the Seventy Crispus, before his conversion, was the ruler of the synagogue in the city of Corinth. During his second missionary journey, the Apostle Paul, coming to Corinth from Athens, settled with Aquila and Priscilla and preached in the synagogue every Sabbath, persuading Jews and Greeks that Jesus is the Christ. Believing the preaching of the Apostle Paul, Crispus was baptized together with his entire household (Acts 18:8); the Apostle Paul, in his First Epistle to the Corinthians, mentions that he personally baptized Crispus (1 Cor 1:14). St. Crispus was later made bishop of the island of Aegina in the Saronic Gulf, where he preached the Gospel until the end of his days. His memory is kept in the Synaxis of the 70 Apostles on January 4/17, and separately on July 30/August 12.
