Righteous Eudokia of Ryazan (identity unconfirmed)

The complete, officially approved list of the Synaxis of Ryazan Saints (established 1987, roughly 94 names, available on drevo-info.ru) was checked in full. The only saint named Eudokia in this synaxis is the new martyr Eudokia (Martishkina, née Giblitskaya; b. 1880, Giblitsy village, Kasimov district, Ryazan governorate; suffered after 1937; canonized by the Bishops' Council of August 13-16, 2000; commemorated December 10) — a 20th-century saint whose biographical profile ("new martyr") does not match the vague description in the original entry ("ancient ascetic venerated in the Ryazan land"). The medieval Ryazan saint whose profile most closely fits such a description is Venerable Euphrosyne (born Eupraksia Olgerdovna, c. 1352-†1405), daughter of Grand Duke Algirdas of Lithuania and wife of Grand Prince Oleg Ivanovich of Ryazan, who took the monastic name Eupraksia, locally venerated, commemorated June 23 (N.S.) — however, her monastic name was Eupraksia, not Eudokia, which prevents confident identification with the original entry. Furthermore, the image previously attached to this card is a miniature from an Old Russian illuminated chronicle depicting a wedding feast scene with riders, captioned with the marriage of a certain Prince Vladimir Konstantinovich — a subject entirely unrelated to the image of an ascetic nun, and apparently attached to the entry in error. In the absence of a confirming source, this entry is marked as an unconfirmed identity and disabled from calendar display.
