Apostle of the Seventy Quartus, Bishop of Berytus — directly mentioned by the Apostle Paul in the Epistle to the Romans ("Quartus a brother saluteth you," Rom. 16:23), who according to Church tradition became bishop of the city of Berytus (modern Beirut, Lebanon), converted many to Christ, and reposed in peace at his see.
Apostle of the Seventy Quartus is directly mentioned by the Apostle Paul in the closing greetings of the Epistle to the Romans, written from Corinth: "Quartus a brother saluteth you" (Rom. 16:23). Church tradition numbers him among the seventy disciples of Christ.
According to tradition, he later became bishop of the city of Berytus in Phoenicia (modern Beirut, Lebanon), where he converted many pagans to Christ. He endured much for the sake of piety and reposed in peace at his episcopal see.
His feast is kept on November 10/23, and also on January 4/17 in the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles, together with Erastus, Olympas, Rhodion (Herodion), Sosipater, and Tertius.
