Martyr Marcellinus

The name Marcellinus belongs to at least eight distinct historical saints venerated by the Church; the most likely candidates for this stub include:

— Pope Marcellinus of Rome (bishop of Rome 296–304, d. 304) — tradition holds he wavered under torture and offered sacrifice to idols, then repented and was executed together with Claudius, Cyrinus, and Antoninus; feast June 7. The historicity of the apostasy episode is disputed — Eusebius of Caesarea does not mention it at all, and some scholars regard it as a later legend.

— Marcellinus and Peter the Exorcist — Roman martyrs executed under Diocletian around 304, buried in the Catacombs of Marcellinus and Peter on the Via Labicana; Western feast June 2.

— Marcellinus of Tomis — martyred with his brothers Argeus and Narcissus around 320, feast January 2.

— Marcellinus of Oxyrhynchus (Egypt, d. 304), martyred with John, Mannea, Serapion, and Peter, feast August 27.

The five dates previously listed in the stub (April 25, January 4, September 27 [twice], October 10) do not, on direct checking of the Orthodox calendar for each date, correspond to a commemoration of any saint named Marcellinus among the candidates above — indicating the dates are a data-contamination artifact rather than a pointer to a specific individual.
