Righteous Anna

Righteous Anna — per the card's biography text, the mother of the Prophet Samuel (1 Samuel 1-2); however, the prior note and images point to Anna, Mother of the Most Holy Theotokos — identity requires clarification.

EDITORIAL NOTE: the card contains conflicting indications of identity. The biography text describes the Old Testament righteous Anna (Hannah), mother of the Prophet Samuel, wife of Elkanah (1 Samuel 1-2) — she was long barren, prayed to God for a son, and vowed to dedicate him to the Lord; her prayer was heard and Samuel was born. However, the prior database entry identified the card with Anna the Prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, who met the infant Christ at the Presentation (Luke 2:36-38), while the image filenames point to Anna, Mother of the Most Holy Theotokos. Old Testament righteous figures generally have no individual commemoration day in the ROC calendar outside the Sunday of the Forefathers, which likely explains the missing date in the source. An editorial decision is needed on which "Anna" was intended.
