Forefather Салафиил праотец

The Forefather Shealtiel (Hebrew: "I have asked of God"; Church Slavonic: Salathiel) was an Old Testament descendant of King David, son of King Jeconiah of Judah, carried into Babylonian captivity in 597 BC. According to the genealogies of Christ in Matthew (1:12) and Luke (3:27), Shealtiel was the father — or, under the law of levirate succession, the legal father — of Zerubbabel, who led the Jews' return from exile to Jerusalem under the Persian king Cyrus in 538 BC and began rebuilding the Temple. His exact dates are unknown; he lived in the late 7th to first half of the 6th century BC, during the Babylonian Exile. Shealtiel has no individual fixed feast day. The Church commemorates him, with all Old Testament righteous ones and forefathers of Christ according to the flesh, on the movable Sunday of the Holy Forefathers, kept on the penultimate Sunday before the Nativity. He also appears in the traditional iconography of the "Sobor of the Holy Forefathers," among the righteous who awaited the Messiah.
