Synaxis Санкт-Петербургские свв.

The Synaxis (Sobor) of Saints of St. Petersburg is a collective commemoration honoring saints whose lives and labors were connected to the land of St. Petersburg and its surrounding region. It was established by decree of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on 19 April 2000, with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II, and is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday after Pentecost — a movable date tied to Pascha. A revised, expanded roster of names was approved by the Synod on 16 May 2023. The synaxis includes saints of many ranks and eras: the right-believing Grand Prince Alexander Nevsky; the region's earliest ascetics, Venerables Sergius and Herman of Valaam and Anthony of Dymsk; Blessed Xenia of Petersburg, fool-for-Christ; Righteous John of Kronstadt; Hieromartyr Vladimir (Bogoyavlensky), Metropolitan of Kiev, formerly the ruling bishop of St. Petersburg; Hieromartyr Benjamin (Kazansky), Metropolitan of Petrograd; and numerous New Martyrs and Confessors of the Soviet persecutions of 1918–1938. Also included are saints linked to the city only through service or study at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, such as St. Theophan the Recluse and the Serbian St. Peter of Cetinje.
