The Synaxis of Suzdal Saints commemorates the holy men and women whose lives were tied to ancient Suzdal, one of the spiritual centers of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality. Their memory is kept together with the Synaxis of Vladimir Saints, established in 1982 by blessing of Patriarch Pimen at the initiative of Archbishop Serapion (Fadeyev) of Vladimir and Suzdal, on June 23/July 6. Among the Suzdal ascetics honored are Theodore, first bishop of Suzdal; John, bishop of Suzdal; Simon, bishop of Suzdal (already a separate card in this database — saint_simon_of_suzdal), author of a celebrated epistle preserved in the Kiev Caves Patericon; Venerable Euthymius of Suzdal, founder of the Savior-Euthymius Monastery; Venerable Euphrosyne of Suzdal, daughter of a Chernigov prince; and Venerable Sophia of Suzdal (already a separate card — sophia_of_suzdal), in the world Grand Princess Solomonia Saburova. For centuries Suzdal was a spiritual heart of northeastern Rus, home to some of the oldest Russian monasteries, where members of grand-princely and royal families often received monastic tonsure.
