Venerable Macarius Pisemsky

Venerable Macarius Pisemsky (late 14th – early 15th c.) — companion of St. Paul of Obnora, founder of the Makariev-Pisemsky Monastery.
Venerable Macarius Pisemsky labored in the late 14th–early 15th centuries. From the Kostroma boyar Pisemsky family, born in Danilovo village on the Pisma River. In youth he entered Sergius of Radonezh's monastery and was tonsured. Returning to Kostroma lands, he built a cell on the Pisma. Venerable Paul of Obnora joined him; they labored together about 20 years until c. 1389, when Paul withdrew to the Komel forest. Disciples gathered around Macarius; a Transfiguration church was built, founding the Makariev-Pisemsky Monastery. He reposed in the early 15th century and was buried there. Venerated in the Synaxis of Kostroma Saints. Feast: January 10/23.
