Venerable Pachomius of Nerekhta (d. 1384) — founder of the Trinity-Sypanov Monastery near Nerekhta, son of a priest from Vladimir.
Venerable Pachomius of Nerekhta (secular name Jacob) was born in Vladimir-on-Klyazma into a priest's family. Drawn to monastic life from his youth, he was tonsured at the Nativity Monastery in Vladimir. Secretly leaving the monastery in search of solitude, he withdrew to the Kostroma lands and settled near the town of Nerekhta, at a place called Sypanovo. There he founded the Trinity-Sypanov Monastery, establishing a strict communal rule. He lived a life of strict asceticism, known for humility and care for the brethren. He reposed in old age on March 21, 1384. He is venerated in the Synaxis of Kostroma Saints and the Synaxis of Vladimir Saints.
